Sant Quirze de Pedret

The Church of Pedret has been documented since the year 983, when it belonged to the Monastery of Sant Llorenç near Bagà.

During the early Middle Ages it was not a parish church. Nevertheless, it received strong support from the local faithful and was enlarged and embellished during the 10th, 11th and 13th centuries, when it attained parish status. In the 18th century, it came under the Parish of Santa Maria de la Baells, together with Sant Andreu de Cercs.

Together with the Gothic bridge, built in the 13th century, it forms one of the most important monumental ensembles in Berguedà and Catalonia.

Its mural paintings, preserved at the Diocesan and Regional Museum of Solsona and at the National Art Museum of Catalonia, are outstanding examples of pre-Romanesque painting in Western Europe.
